About Us
Simply Social Work (Northwest) provides professional Social Work services for both adults and children, offering support to private client, Court of Protection, and education solicitors across The Northwest of England and North Wales. Our North-West team covers the whole of the Northwest including Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. Our Northwest team specialize in delivering high-quality, independent Social Work assessment reports and mental capacity reports for children, young people, and adults.
Our Northwest team has expertise in various aspects of Social Work including EHCP appeals for the First-Tier Tribunal (SEND), COP3 mental capacity determinations for deputyship applications, all other mental capacity assessments, care needs reports for adults and children, and expert reports for Court of Protection matters.
EHCP Appeals
If you need to challenge a local authority decision regarding an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP), whether it involves refusal to issue a plan or an order to cease one, our experienced team can provide expert witness testimony in First-Tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability) hearings. We offer court-compliant care and support needs reports, which can serve as crucial evidence in appeals. Our reports specifically address sections D, F, H1, and H2 of an EHCP.
Mental Capacity Reports
We support both professional and lay deputies with their deputyship applications to the Court of Protection through detailed and robust COP3 mental capacity assessments. If your child has a Child Trust Fund they cannot access due to mental capacity issues related to financial decision-making, we can assist with a COP3 mental capacity assessment to support a deputyship application.
Our team of highly experienced mental capacity assessors, many of whom are qualified Best Interests Assessors, are available to evaluate and determine mental capacity for a range of financial, and personal welfare matters, including:
- Lasting Power of Attorney
- Property and Financial Affairs
- Health and Welfare
- Social Media and Internet Use
- Marriage and Sexual Relations
- Financial Gifting Decisions
- CCTV Usage Consent
- Advance Decisions to Refuse Medical Treatment
- Acting as an Executor
- Litigation and Education Capacity Assessments (for EHCP appeals)
- Testamentary Capacity Assessments
With our expertise spanning both adult and children's Social Work, we are well-equipped to assess the mental capacity of young individuals transitioning into adulthood. As part of our EHCP appeal reports, we frequently assess young people's ability to make decisions about their care, residence, financial matters, education, and, in some cases, their capacity to engage in sexual relationships.
Care Assessments and Court of Protection
Our Manchester office area is home to a team of highly experienced Social Workers and Best Interests Assessors, making us well placed to undertake matters relating to Court of Protection proceedings, particularly in cases concerning Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) authorisations.
In addition to mental capacity assessments, we conduct comprehensive care and support needs reports to determine the appropriate level of care required for an individual. Our team is well-versed in preparing care and support needs reports for a variety of legal and welfare purposes.
